Kid's Television

I think it is only fair to see how the youth of today are being influenced, even from a young age, and what more suiting for the influence of children are childrens television programs?

Look back at the 50's and 60's television shows like

Andy Pandy

Bill and Ben; the Flowerpot Men

Shows like these were full of innocence and were used as a form of educating children through afternoon entertainment. Simple slapstick jokes were used to help keep the shows entertaining and were extremely simple to understand.

Looking closer at modern childrens television, the ideals and morals of the shows are completely in a contrast to the older shows.
Less reason for the shows being there, solely for entertainment purposes instead of educational. There is also a much bigger range and variety of the shows.

Respresentation

For our A2 study, we are to choose a particular social group to study in two different types of media and write about them.
I have chosen Modern Youth. This will hopefully look into the youth of today, behaviour, mannerisms and habits in comparison to those in the past.
My two chosen media are Television and Film.

To begin with, I searched google to find out what kind of people the youth of today are being perceived as and I decided I would look at modern youth in different sections:
-Crime
-Substances
-Education
-Way of Life

The first thing that I found was a website about youth related crimes.

I then went on to research different headlines about young people.

Looking at a recent poll of crime statistics, this is what I found:

-20,000 young people were electronically tagged last year - a 40% increase in three years.

-Barnardo's "Whose Child Now?" report from research with 1,000 children who had been sexually exploited.

-60% of rescued trafficked children later go missing from authority care.

-A Child killed every week because warning signs that they are living with a potential killer are being ignored.

-There are 30,000 criminals who are members of organised criminal gangs in the UK and they cost the country up to £40bn a year.

-The Youth Justice board has found that one in three young people carry a knife or gun and a crime is committed by a young person every two minutes.

The youth of today are evolving every day, finding newer and more interesting ways to live. How does this differ to the way the youth used to behave in previous generations before this?
